The first trip our filly took was over 2000 miles as a weanling.
I thought that would have soured her, but the next time we were trailering(as a yearling) she hopped right on.
I don't have a trailer or truck, so I have to rely on others.
The third trailer trip was about 3 hrs as a three yr old. I was with her, she hopped right on and it SEEMED like an uneventful trip, although she really did not seem happy at all, fidgeting and restless.
When we got to our destination, she was very sweaty, but not anxious...settled right in.
On the return trip, she was harder to load, but eventually went on.
I loaded her several times, when trailers were available. It took coaxing, but she did it with no major problems.
It was in the trailer we had the problem in, as well ads another.
Now, I am unable to get her to load at all. She goes up the ramp no problem, and stands 3/4 in the trailer. Once she came all the way in and stood, so I was going to take her for as very short drive. When we tried to put the butt rope up, she flew off and refused to go back on. Unfortunately, the trailer had to leave, so it ended with her not loading instead of me being able to keep working on it.
It was a standard QH size trailer and she is a 16.1 draft x. Could she just find it too small? Having no trailer, I try to use whatever one comes to the barn, but have not tried since the last time as I don't want to have to have the trailer leave without her loading again and give her the idea that not loading is OK. Bad enough that happened once already.
Suggestions, please. She is the first horse I have ever owned who didn't self load after a bit of work, and I don't know how to help rectify this.
Thanks
