1. Would a pro rather have a horse from day one? would I just be detering them from accepting a horse or would this actually be beneficial to the client and pro?
I've had several big name trainers send unbroke horses to me to be started because they don't like starting the babies. So I would say it would just depend but around here there seems to be people that start colts and then the rest are finishing trainers.
2. What would you expect to come from say 30 days of training? (obviously will depend on where the horse started)
The horse to be broke, broke meaning not going to unload my ass unless I do something REALLY stupid, broke and trained are different things in my book. They should walk/trot/canter, have been ridden outside the arena on trails, tie well, be used to being hosed off and clip with to much fuss. I could list more but those are my basics.
3. What would you be willing to pay for something like this?
I do almost exactly what you talking about training horses in the summer only for extra cash and I charge $500 a month (horse gets ridden 5 days a week or more) plus board.
4. What happens if a horse is injured in training, I don't use outrageous methods or anything but horses are horses and shit happens. (we all know they could figure out get hurt but air alone)
I have a contract that says I am not liable for the horse getting hurt bla bla and that I can call a vet out if I see fit ect... What I've done if a horse gets hurt and needed a week off I just let the horse hang out of a week free of charge for that week. If it needed more time to heal the owner could send me another horse and take the hurt one home or I would refund their money for however long was left. Say the horse had been there for 2 weeks and then gotten hurt I would give them 2 weeks of the training/board fee back.
5. Also I would obviously have to give up my ammy status, how bad would that hurt me in the Hunter/ Jumper world? My presonal horse is a 5y/o Mare that I hoped to show pre green this summer, will it interfere?
Personally I don't know but Terryn knows about this so I'll go with what she said.
Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions.
