My gelding regularly gets carrots, alfalfa cubes and peppermints (the puffy kind that just melt on your tongue). He will follow you anywhere if you even crinkle a plastic peppermint wrapper. He will eat apples and pears but they aren't his favorites. The melt on your tongue peppermints are by far his favorite. I buy them in big tubs from Costco.
I have a preschooler and she comes to the barn with me so he has also sampled granola bars and Little Debby oatmeal cream pies. He was a fan of both but I wouldn't give them to him on a regular basis. My preschooler loves to "feed the horsies" so he is often hand fed hay and he will stand there patiently with his head over the stall door and wait for the tiny wisps of hay or single blades of grass that my little girl brings to his stall door - even when he's got a pile of the same hay sitting at his feet in the stall. He'd rather eat from her hand. He loves my little girl!!
