Like I needed more reasons to dislike Parelli.

And I don't get it. Why would you ever want your horse to basically run sideways from you? The furthest I want my horse to move sideways (from the ground) is a few steps. Easily accomplished by putting a bit of pressure on his side.
My horse is from a Parellite home.  Which is why she was six and couldn't steer or canter.   When I first tried to lunge her, as soon as I picked up the whip, she started scrambling sideways away from me.   I thought she was whip-shy, so I rubbed it all over her, swung it around, etc.  Horse didn't care, unless we were about to lunge, then she was a high-headed, side stepping mess.

When I showed my (new) instructor, she simply took the lunge line from me, pointed the whip at the horse's barrel and let her side-step out to the end of the line, then asked her to walk.  Worked like a charm.  Now I know where that button came from!
