I'd buy her a book on caring for your first horse. It'll have all that stuff listed, including how important it is to own each item. Make sure it has a section on selecting tack and proper tack fit.


Bare minimum (I'm sure I'm missing some things, but these are the things you should have before the horse arrives):
-halter and lead (so you can catch the damn thing)
-grooming kit: rubber curry comb, metal curry comb, stiff brush, soft brush, hoof pick, hair brush
-first aid kit: saline, ointment, gauze, vet wrap, bute
-health care: farrier, shots, deworming, emergency vet (have this sorted out before you need to use any of these services)

Anything else is optional.
