It's only viewed as "a bit crazy" by those who don't believe the value of a particular horse can actually be higher than your average backyard horses and crossbred rescues.
Who said a single thing about average backyard horses and crossbred rescues?

The situation you mentioned is a generally accepted practice because the horses are being transported for breeding purposes. And, specifically, for thoroughbred breeding purposes. You don't see breeds in associations who allow AI shipping their animals from coast to coast because the necessity just isn't there. They do the more financially sound thing: they ship the semen instead.
Because trail riding was mentioned as the purpose for THIS particular transport, that's why people questioned it.

Nobody ever said this mare wasn't quality. They also didn't suggest picking up some "average backyard" or "crossbred rescue" in Australia as an alternative. It's been suggested multiple times that there are likely horses of equal quality already in Australia who would serve the same purpose. OK, it's wonderful for all involved that he found Idgie and loves her and will get to do what he wants with her. He's very lucky to have the resources to support that endeavor. But to those of us who have to make more practical decisions with our money, his decision seems to be a bit crazy. That's all. Nobody is trying to offend anyone or say that HNH suckered him, or that Idgie isn't worth transporting or anything remotely like that. It seems that you're really trying very hard to start a fight here where there really isn't one.

Oh, and "The truth often offends when it's not sugarcoated"? Gimme a break. You ARE being condescending. You started an argument that wasn't even relevant to the point that I was actually trying to make. You're the one who's offended, it seems, and you don't even have a dog in this fight. You're neither the seller nor the buyer in this situation. Your opinion on this matter is no more or less valid than those that have been stated. It's just different perspectives. While you might be willing to pay out the ass for a horse to be transported as nothing more than a trail mount (you must, since you're defending the practice), many people feel that there are much more sound ways to spend that money. You can't say that those who have different ideas about finances are wrong any more than we can say this guy is wrong. Nobody has said he's "wrong" to do this - just that many of us, given the opportunity, would not repeat his actions.
