HF -- they generally do not do full hysterectomies on mares (I am sure it HAS been done, just not routinely). It is WAY too invasive a proceedure when, as necessary, the ovaries can be removed and the uterus left for hormonal problems and such.
That's correct, Dressage. I already have that information. That's was more of a wish of the heart than anything to do with reality. I said the same as you when I said it is intrusive / synonym for invasive. And I am also aware that it is rare that hysterectomies are done on mares - again, wish of the heart.

  

Sorry HF -- I didn't realize how you meant it.  There really are people who do not understand that it is not practical to do on a mare.  Many people think that if you can do it to a dog, you can do it to a horse (because that are just like dogs ya' know, only bigger).  I truly didn't mean to insult your intelligence!!
