Hi all! I have a horse for sale that has been on the market since around December. In March I leased her out so the selling was put on hold. Now, since the lease is ending, I am renewing my ads.

Anyways, for those of you with selling/marketing experience, I have a couple of questions. I would like around $6,000 for this horse. Is it better in the ad to put $6,000 firm, just $6,000, or maybe $6,500-7,000 negotiable? Personally, when I was horse shopping, I liked to see the word "negotiable." I would really like the $6K (she is worth it) but for a good home I would negotiate a little.

Also, as the main picture (one you see in the search listings), would you rather see a conformation shot or an action shot?

Finally, what other sites are there besides Equine.com and Dreamhorse.com? She is not listed on dreamhorse right now, but I did get the best package on equine.com so her ad is sometimes featured on the front page.

The market is so terrible right now but I am trying my best to hopefully get a sale by the fall. Thanks!

With the horse market down like it is, I would ask for either what you would like to get, or a little bit more to give prospective buyers the opportunity to feel good about getting you down on price. On the photo, conformation shots are better, but pretty is what sells, so if you can get a prettier picture in motion, do that instead. There is agdirect.com and many breed registries now have somewhere on their websites you can sell your horse.
