Definitely home. Not one boarding stable in the area has been able to care for my horses like I can. That being said, if I want to go on vacation, or to a show, I have a very large network of excellent horsemen to take care of my horses while I am away. Not to mention the vet lives 3 miles from my house. My family also swaps out vacation times. At Christmas, hubby and I go to Ohio first, then when we come back, she goes. If I want to go to a show, hubby usually has to work anyway so can stay and take care of animals while we are gone. Even though I am their slave... I was even more of thier slave when I boarded. Like I said... no one does it like I do. We did our vacations the same even when we boarded. Someone was at the barn every day of the week to work and check on those horses. I've had boarding stables forget to feed, not fill up water buckets, conveniently forget to turn horses out, not recognize signs of colic. Bleh... I'll NEVER board again if I can help it. But then again, I'm anal. I've been known to get up to pee at 3 AM and stroll on out to the barn to check the kids. I've avoided MANY potential issues with that little habit. My mother's gelding LOVES to cast himself in the stall at night during storms.
