There are pros and cons to both, but I prefer having them at home.

It's just so much easier in the way that we get to control every decision. We've been in some really shitty places, including TWO places that stopped feeding our horses so we were keeping a bale of hay in my mom's work car and driving up to the barn three times a day to feed our horses. It's nice not to worry about that when they're at home. We can change feed whenever want, ride whenever we want, and if it's too hot/cold/etc we can just bring the horses in. We can throw an extra flake at them without getting in trouble.

I do miss the social aspect of boarding, and I miss the nice facilities (that's just in my case, though). We have the yearling 'boarded' out, but it's not really that different from having her at home. We're her only boarder and we still have control over her feed and what we want to do with her. I still find myself wishing that she was in our backyard though just so I could see her more.
