Having done both, I have to say that I prefer boarding at this time in my life. When I had the horses at home, most of my free time (after working a full-time+ job) was taken up with maintenance chores on the property, stall cleaning, meeting and holding horses for the Vet and farrier, fetching, loading and unloading feed and hay, etc. Forget having time to ride! And of course, there was the DH complaining that between work and horses, I had no time for him. This was before the kid came along, BTW...............I have found a really great place to board where my horses are happy and relaxed. It's 15 minutes from my house, they are turned out 6 days a week, and the bo's handle vetting and farrier. I can go out of town and not have to worry about them, as I know they are always in good hands. The QH trainer there (he and his wife manage the barn) is a real horseman - quiet, patient and kind. Heck, he is putting miles on my green-broke Ay-rab/Saddlebred cross filly and is willing to help break out the other young Ay-rab gelding, LOL! I have to say, I like this barn really well.
