My little dogs don't wear collars simply because the one is still in puppy stage and I can't keep one on her. I can't keep one on the other little dog because the other either takes it off or chews it off. I never really had little dog experiance before these two, always big dogs. The big dogs keep collars on 24/7. If for some reason it comes off, or I have to take it off for re-adjusting, they have all gotten very anxious and clingy without them. Microchips are worthless in our area, because neither the vetor the AC officer has a reader. This may be BS but the small animal vet in the area even says the microchips don't work really well because there are different types and brands(?) and each needs its own reader(?) So like if my cat who is microchipped made her way to amarillo or another big city, there reader may not be able to pick up her chip because it was done in alaska. Again, that could be complete BS.
Another tibit on the collars that may be complete BS, I read somewhere that dogs associate collars with ownership/belonging. Could have been quack crap but it said that insecure dogs that start wearing a collar 24/7 become more confident, because they know they belong. It kind of made sense to me since I noticed my dogs always get weird without their collars. My dad has a nutjob of a needy dog, and she hardly ever wears a collar. I watched the dog for like two months and kept a collar on her and it made a huge difference in her personallity. Even my dad noticed when he came back. Took about a month for him to screw it all up again, but for a month it was one secure dog.
