well, Lsrd, for my friend who took a spill off a carriage and had concussion symptoms, they took her to the hospital. They checked her vital signs and did an x-ray. The x-ray led to an MRI which diagnosed a skull fracture and bleeding. A brain scan diagnosed that it was bleeding on the brain. An internal probe diagnosed a blood clot was forming and surgery treated the blood clot and bleeding before it led to brain damage. It was a tiny bleed, which if left for a few days, would have led to her death.
As it was, she had a halo screwed into her head with a pressure gauge till her brain bleed was done and sealed by itself. Surgery removed the clot. She was put on vitamin K to help the clotting. During that time, she was sedated ( induced coma ) to help rest her brain and had steroids given to help decrease the swelling.
She was in ICU for over a week, then in the regular hospital for anothe week. She was discharged to therapy and memory testing, which is still impared. She is a probation officer in her real life and cannot yet return to work. She is struggleing to cope with the frustration and loss of income in the family.
She was wearing a helmet when she got her concussion.
