I know a girl who had to stop riding because the doctor said that if she hit her head again it could kill her. (I guess she's fallen off a lot? I don't know her well, I've met her a couple of times, but know a horse she used to ride for someone and stopped because of the doctor's advice)

Sorry, this really irritates me. If you hit your head period you can die, it is always possible. Yes, I have heard that the more concussions/head trauma you have the more likely a more serious issue may arise. However, to stop riding because of that? Hell you could trip and hit your head and that could be the last straw. I understand about minimizing risk and taking precautions (ie wearing a helmet, not riding greenies, etc.) but to totally stop riding, I am honestly amazed. You couldn't pay me enough to not ride.
IIRC, she's done enough damage that even a light blow can cause her serious injury. Also, she has a 2yo (or 3), and so I guess she's erring on the side of caution. I'm not sure if she rides her pretty mellow horse anymore, but I know she's stopped riding any that have known issues (like the horse she was riding for the other lady).

Her choice. I was just relaying what I heard about it.
