I have a Welsh first name which is uncommon but easy to pronounce if you can say "Gwuh". It's not so uncommon that you have never seen it before, either. Just maybe never met someone with that name.

My last name is English and short (first name is LONG). People always call me by my last name because it sounds like a first name.

It drives me nuts. Neither is "weird" or "odd". They are both "real names".

And as for Kristen, when my cousin married his wife (her name is Kristen and his name is Justin), the priest said he was there to marry "Jason and Christian." My mother said, "Wow. Interesting. A GAY Catholic ceremony." They had both been in that church for YEARS, so it was just rude and annoying. Bride corrected the priest and then he fell asleep. Really, how hard is it to say Kristen?
