I agree with the Non-Profit status. Get that. And hit up some feed companies (the manufacturers, not the local feed store) for reduced prices and/or donations and present them with your NPO paperwork. See if a local vet will give reduced-fee services. You'd be surprised what you can get at reduced fees when you don't ask for 'free'.
