Give him the rest of the week off. If he isn't fine by then, take some sort of action. My barefoot horse routinely gets trimmed a bit too short (by different farriers) so I just keep her on soft turf and keep things light for about a week and then she's just fine. Rocky terrain, gravel, and pavement are things to avoid until he's over the initial soreness. His frog is meant to be a shock absorber, so don't worry about that. Worry about his sole (bottom of foot) and his hoof walls. That's where most stone bruises occur.
If he gets over in a couple days it's not the end of the world. If you're super concerned, then find a different farrier. Many barefoot horses are a little ouchy after a big trim. And not always b/c they're too short. Sometimes, if it's been too long between trims, the horse is off b/c the angles of his feet are different and he needs to readjust.
Whenever I schedule trims I make sure there's nothing major I need my horse to do for the rest of the week. If we've got a show, camping trip, or big trail ride ahead, I try to get the farrier out over a week before or I wait until the event is over.
Equestrians do it with whips, spurs, and leather.
