It is so fun to have non horsey folks show up and wrinkle their nose at the smell of feed soaking in the house. Winter time usually calls for a couple halters, leads, saddle blankets, shit covered boots, and headstalls hanging in the porch as well. I like the smell, other people not so much lol.

We get some nasty cold weather so I like a warm meal for the horses, and as someone pointed out, it adds water to the diet as well. I soak for 4 hours in hot water, after 4 hours it is the right temp, and is complete mash, they love it. I add enough boiling water to cover all the dry stuff with about 2 inches of water above the feed.
I don't add anything sweet, and my horses inhale it.
