You shouldn't have to pay to get the sutures and drains removed. We don't charge at my hospital even if we weren't the ones who put them in. But hell, if your neighbours are going to pay, I'd get them for all they're worth. We don't report dog fights, only if a human was injured by one of the dogs, then we have to report it to animal control and inform the people they should get medical attention even if the wounds are minor. If the dog that did the attacking is not current on it's vaccinations, it has to be quarantined for 10 days at either an animal hospital or the shelter (that's only if it bit a person)

I imagine that's not the first time that dog has gone after another dog unprovoked. I could understand if it was being defensive, but to run across the street to get your little one, that's what we call, in the veterinary profession, a bad fucking dog that should be euthanised. Personally I don't believe dogs like that can ever be rehabbed to be trustworthy.

And I agree that just because the dog attacks other animals, that it won't necessarily go after people. But I've also seen the aftermath of a dog fight where one of the dogs got so engrossed in the fight that it went after the owner who hadn't stuck his hand or anything in the way. The dog was just so worked up that it took a chunk out of him too.

I hope your little one feels better soon, dogs are amazing though. Things that would level a human and put them out of commission for a week, dogs get over in a matter of hours. The lacerations and drains aren't really going to be the things hurting her, it's going to be all the bruising that you might not be able to see. That's going to be a very sore bum
That also says the dog wasn't necessarily out to kill your dog, more just pick a fight otherwise there would be more wounds to the neck/head of your dog. Or maybe she was just trying to make a hasty getaway and all the dobie could grab ahold of her was her bum.

In reality she got very lucky, I've seen far too many working in an emergency animal hospital that came out much worse off. And she does look very cute and pitiful in her e-collar
