Hunting is a blast... and with the way eventing (and many other disciplines!) are going, I think I will be pointing my youngster toward hunting rather then eventing when the time comes.

I HIGHLY recommend "Riding to Hounds in America" good, short little book that will teach you the ins and outs. There is a lot of tradition, and unspoken norms (rules) which one has to follow when hunting.. REMEMBER

Its a HOUND, not a dog, ever!

Hounds "Cry" (NEVER bark!), when the pack is in "full cry" it is "music" A hound also may "give tongue" when he is on "the line"

WARE (as in beware), it is polite to yell out "Ware Hole!" should you pass a dangerous hole, "ware wire" (on a fence being jumped) etc.
