I would like to point out that Curlin's dam was unraced. hard to believe, isn't it? I would call her "less than average", well, not anymore. Now she is worth a fortune. Also, she has no notable offspring besides Curlin, and no notable siblings, either. Go figure...this is one reason why people keep breeding the unraced/unproven mares - anything is possible.
