Ok, I don't know how to quote on here, so forgive me for my old-fashioned technique.

"I would like to point out that Curlin's dam was unraced. hard to believe, isn't it? I would call her "less than average", well, not anymore. Now she is worth a fortune. Also, she has no notable offspring besides Curlin, and no notable siblings, either. Go figure...this is one reason why people keep breeding the unraced/unproven mares - anything is possible."

Curlin's dam, Sherriffs Deputy, is by Deputy Minister, who is one of the better sires of his/our time. Also, her dam was a Graded Stakes winner, and HER dam was a Stakes winner. There's a reason that sales pages contain only one sire line (the sire of the horse to be sold) and as many female generations that will fit. If the female family is proven to produce, then they're going to take a chance on a new female in the line, unraced or not. All it takes is one Curlin to make the chance worth it, and most mares only produce one foal of his quality in their lifetime, IF they're going to produce one.
