I would say going to slaughter is still pretty common. Bunches end up at Sugarcreek every week, or New Holland.

The track I visit is getting better- they're selling a lot of horse privately when they don't work out, but there's still a couple BIG trainers there who refuse to do that. One sells to a dealer with the stipulation that they don't re-sell, that they go STRAIGHT to kill pen only (so his owners are less likely to find out). But on the whole, I think the situation is getting better, so many programs and such specifically geared towards TBs are helping (FLTAP, CANTER, re-run, trf, exceller, turning for home, etc)
