Didn't see, but more than likely the afterbirth. That's normal.

ETA:  Usually it gets tied up and left to come out by itself.  Interference with that can leave parts inside the mare, which causes horrible problems and/or death.  We always made sure it was completely intact, and if we were in doubt at all, we'd call our vet.
