Art teaches creative thinking and healthy self-expression, both of which are skills that I believe are sorely under-emphasized in kids. Besides, if one of the points of school is to prepare all students for adult careers, cutting art programs fails those students who are destined for lives as animators, graphic artists, designers, drafters, architects, photographers, etc. Cut sports programs to pay for them, far more kids will go on to professional art careers than professional sports careers. Sports are good to have in schools, too, but the kids don't need million-dollar stadiums or trips all over the state to benefit from them.
