REMOVE THE STUPID FCKING LAW THAT ALLOWS:

double time credit for time served while in trial before sentence is determined for a crime.

Example: (true story)
A man gets out of jail in 2.5 yrs and his trial was in 2010 and was sentenced to 10yrs in prison for "Manslaughter" - he strangled his wife for 40mins until dead and then dumped her body in a cardboard box away from their home. He served 3yrs awaiting trial and sentencing.
STUPID CANADA.
That law is SUPPOSED to encourage a speedy trial, however, our court systems are so overloaded it can't handle the claims. Before they go to trial, they are pretty much an imprisioned innocent person. This double time is to compensate them for imprisonment without a conviction, and also to encourage the gov't to get off their ass and get them to trial.

Canada also has automatic parole eligibility after half the sentence is served. Pretty much ridiculous to me.

The original theory behind prison was not to solely keep criminals away from the general public, but was for rehabilitation of criminals. Unfortunately the prison system pretty much requires gang membership to survive, and kids that go in for minor offences end up coming out worse than when they went in.
