With a young horse you really have to look at the individual. Usually I will take them to a show on a field trip, just hang out and ride, see thing ext. Early in the season. Then a small show. If they handle that well then they will just show enough to qualify for regionals. Usually at least a month between shows. 2-4 classes, and maybe a halter class. I like them spread out, and depending on the horse a 1-2 class warm up tops. (small shows they run about 10 minutes each, big shows about 20).
