How many shows do you show a year?
Hmm don't have a set "planned number" so quick tally:

Pony Club Eliminations
Pony Club State Champs
Pony Club Eventing State Champs
Local ODE
Local Showjump Champs
3-5 ODEs? Depends on dates
Hopefully a couple of dressage days, some pinto shows at the end of the year, and maybe some local Ag shows if the dates fit in.

Knock on wood at least 10 shows

How far apart do you break? We like to show a fortnight apart, every weekend is just too much effort! Especially with the ODEs. We may show back to back weekends depending on the disciplines and which horses I'm taking.

How long are they? Pretty much everything except the local events (pony club events, some dressage and ag shows) are weekend events. ODEs we travel on Friday, compete Sat & Sun and drive home either Sunday or Monday depending on how far away the event is. The pinto shows and some of the dressage days have to travel down the day before (usually a Saturday).

How many classes do you show a day? Are they spread out? Back to back? Eventing is my thing so it's only one class...just three different disciplines lol. Dressage on Saturday, cross country and showjumping on Sunday.

The Pony Club Eliminations (which select for state champs), definently dressage and showjumping classes, depending on the horse Horse of the Year Class (which involves dressage, jumping and mounted games) and I may get roped into the Clubs drill team again. All on the same day so is a busy busy flat out day, especially if I also get roped into leading a little kid lol.

Pinto classes - thus far has been only 5 or so led classes in the morning, but hope to show under saddle this season (which is later in the year) which will mean a few classes before lunch and then a couple after lunch as well.

I would do a couple of dressage tests at a dressage day, and may take two horses.

If its a one day show or a two day show does it make a difference in what youll have them do? Only two day shows I've done that haven't been ODEs have been the Pony Club Eliminations/State Champs, which usually involve dressage, showjumping, drill on one day and a show on the second day (normal flat showing classes and more jumping).

The one and only show I went to it was a one day show and I only did two classes which were 31 and 33..

Apart from the shows put on by our pony club, and a couple of local ag shows which are about an hour away, and a dressage club which is starting up two hours away, every other event we travel to is a least 3-4 hours away, for the ODEs more like 4-8 hours away. Hence why we usually travel the day before a show - I don't feel like getting up at a ridiculous hour of the morning, let alone the horses. For an 8 hour ODE we'll usually travel on the Thursday and have a relaxing Friday at the venue.

I could "max out" the classes I would be eligible to enter at a show over two days and not be concerned about overdoing my horses. I mostly event though so it's not an issue, I have a set three disciplines to compete in. It's more the distance that comes into play for us.

In '09 we travelled 650km one day, and a further 300km the next day (after competing at an ODE and spending the previous two weeks travelling and training) gave the boy one day off the next day I went to ride him - just a quiet relaxing walk trail ride - and he was raring to go and full of energy, so I'm pretty confident in our fitting and travelling procedures.
