I was taking care of a friend's two horses once, when they went away. They were in separate paddocks with automatic waterers, and I just fed them in buckets on the fence. The second day, as I was approaching the mare, who had been standing by her bucket, waiting, she suddenly turned and walked away, which I thought was odd, because she knew I was coming to feed her. She went to her waterer and put her nose in. I thought "Oh, she just wants a drink before she eats". Some horses are funny like that, and like their food wet. But when she took her nose back out of the waterer, it was dry. Uh-oh. She then came over to her bucket, and ate the grain I had put in it. I checked the waterer and it wasn't working.

Luckily, There was a full trough of water in the other field, so I dipped buckets until the people came back. I swear the mare was trying to tell me the waterer wasn't working!

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference
