On our place Nutmeg hasn't been hurt badly except by another horse flipping her onto the next property and when she over-reached and nicked herself while acting like an idiot for the horses next door.
Now when she was on the property next to ours that is when she sliced her foot open on a piece of half buried metal.
I'm afraid of nails from our place, someone apparently used it as a trash dump before we bought it and never bothered to tell us. We've found about 20lbs worth of metal including a huge chain and several railroad ties...mangled nails...you name it. Ugh. Tried to dig all of it out and get rid of it but I am afraid we missed a few spots. I'll go out there this summer with the metal detector again.
