They'll lie down outside in the sun on the hard ground anyway no matter what you bed their stall with.

Are you saying that hock sore are inevitable on horses that live outside all the time?
I'm not FTF obviously but I don't think they are "inevitable"...but like in my situation, we have 3 separated areas where our horses can go.  Two are more pasture-like with more grass and such.  One is where the run-in is, where they get fed, where the water trough is, etc. so I'd consider it more of a "dry lot."  There is some grass there but for the most part, especially in the hot summer months when it gets dry, it's mostly bare dirt.  The horses lie down there more than they do in the grass (they like to roll in the dust/dirt) and thus hock sores.  The ground isn't as bad where the grass grows but they hardly lie down out there....they just graze.

If you're wrong, admit it.  If you're right...shut up!
