In 8 of Secretariat's races, he ran the first quarter in :22 and change. That is a speed horse by anyone's standards.


Secretariat is/was considered a galloper as all 'race' TB's are considered. In TB racing the horse never runs all out through the entire race like a QH horse does. QH's are the true speed/springing horses. 
Sure there are speed/springing considered TB's, but they are still not the sprinters the faster QH's are at 440 true sprinting yards...
