Those are most likely synthetic opal. Nice, bright opal with great play of color is almost never set in silver, however, synthetic opal is almost always set in silver.
Synthetic opal most often comes in types: resin based or "glass" based. The resin based is the most affordable. I think I would use a Sunshine cloth instead of chemicals. Like this
Take care to avoid rubbing the opal as much as possible.

PS I love opals. I have cut a few and set a few. I wanted to be opalaholic but it was already being used by someone in the trade.
