Walkin, I think you did your best to contact the owner and deal with the situation. the owner of the horse is showing, in my opinion, odd behavior here. If I got a call like that, I'd come out to the barn and/or call my vet immediately.

If it were me, I would have called the barn owner and owner immediately, walked the horse and hosed her feet. Once the barn owner was involved, I'd have honestly left the vet issues, etc. between the owner of the barn and the other boarder. If the other boarder had any sort of agreement with the bo re: when to call the vet, how much treatment was authorized etc, it would be between the two of them. Also, as the owner of the farm, the barn owner would be the one to make those executive decisions in the absence of the horse owner.  Once the barn owner got there, I'd have told her everything and bowed out of the decision making re: vet, etc.

I don't know that I would have put the horse out on grass, given the fear of laminitus, but I agree being out and moving was better than standing in a stall. I certainly would have stayed to help with whatever the owner of the horse and the barn owner decided, but I would step out of that decision making dynamic and left it to them.

You didn't let the horse out, you didn't open the gran, you didn't do anything wrong and you tried to help. I might be worried/upset if my horse was put out on grass after stuffing his face like that, but I would have responded to you right away and called my vet. Then I would have followed the vet's advice from then on out.

I hope everything works out and the horse is fine and this all settles down for you!
