I think you're going to have to strip or sand those cabinets. They're too peeled to paint over, and too unevenly peeled to pull off the shabby chic "I meant to do that" crackled look.

I'll second the vote for Behr, and not because I work for the place that sells it. It's the best paint I've personally used, one coat usually covers everything and it goes on smoothly.
