First is it really important to know what you want in a horse. what do you use your horses for? the reason it's so important to have good conformation in a animal you breed is so that it has the best chance to live a long and useful life, horses can live into there 30's you may think your going to keep them forever but that's a long time and you could move get married go to school or lose interest, just like with your favorite toy it can happen and a well breed animal will always have a home over a poorly breed animal, a pure breed animal has a much better chance then a grade or part breed one, because breed have been developed not just to look pretty (well most) but to do a job, everything, looks movement, color, personality, skills, have been carefully selected to produce the breeds you seen now. Cross breeding can have it's good points but also it's bad, a horse breed to work cows is very different then a horse that is used for saddleseat, everything about the two is different it would be like putting a puzzle together and the parts don't fit and you want the puzzle to fit so when your foal hits the ground it don't end up looking like it was made out of spare parts and it can do what it was breed to. There is so much more important things then color to worry about but if you do pick a color breed then it's best to know what will give you the best chance at the color you want. I think you would want to look for a stallion that is Homozygous and offers a LFCG stallion that guarantees live colored foals. Then you have to make a list about every part of your mare that's good and bad which will be very hard if you don't know! Your mare is much better then the stud you or your mom used, he should not really be a stud at all, your mare is cut and put together OK there is nothing that I see that is stand out as far as breeding her goes but if you really want another foal I hope you do pick out a stud that is a LOT better then her, every horse you breed you should shot for better or whats the point of breeding? there are WAY to many horses BAD or OK horses out there for free or next to it. you have the skill to train which is very useful! there are a lot of breeders who are knowledgeable but older or have money to buy good bloodlines but not the skill to work with their horses you maybe able to work off a really really NICE foal! that would be worth breeding! you have to think can I breed better then I can buy ? or even get a nice horse for free, I got a VERY nice but untrained mare for free, and I pass up others all the time, look at this e-mail I got about a month ago. the baby is adorable! any one else interested? Here is a picture of the stallion, he looks young, halter broke, some.... has not been aggressive at all, pretty calm, might change if mare and foal get taken away but for now he is gentle.
