Crypt surgery is uber expensive- I have had to have 2 minis done to the tune of $3400 each! One was a gelding I bought with the understanding he was a gelding- he came & tried to kill my stallion & was downright savage with the mares. I thought he was just psycho & was going to send him back to the people I bought him from. My vet came out to draw coggins on everyone & was looking at the little gelding & told me he was a crypt & they hadn't removed the other testicle when they had gelded him the first time. So he had to go to the University & be gelded a second time! Instant attitude change!
The other colt was a crypt as well- we waited till he was 4, hoping he'd drop, but he just stayed so hot & aggressive, we went ahead & had him done. Again instant attitude adjustment!
I have only seen one other proud cut horse- an older TWH that was hell on wheels to be around. They swore he was a gelding, he had just been gelded too late & had bred some mares before he had been gelded. His behaviour was way too studdish, even to be gelded late, and when they did the necropsy when he died, sure enough, there was the second testicle. It had dropped, we don't know if it was down when they gelded him, or maybe it dropped after the fact, but he was so darn evil with his back feet, no one ever bothered to check him out!
