I gelded mine at 3-not my choice, I bought him undernourished at 3 and waited for a month and a half to geld him. I watched the whole procedure. He was done standing. I would prefer that they not thrash trying to get up and hurt themselves. It has been a year and when I moved him to get him broke, he has kept every mare on the property in heat for 3 weeks. He reaches through the fence and licks and nibbles them. I watched, the testicle, cord and squealer were all removed intact. My vet was very emphatic about me seeing-her reasoning was IF he still acted like a stud, it would be because of the fact that it was because he was gelded later. He still thinks he is Don Juan..........
I don't know whether he bred a mare or not but he was in with one when I bought him. He is also put in his place by my old mare and now can reside in a pasture with her as his buddy.
