Ok I am going to get graphic here lol.That is explained exactly right!!Some colts though, that extra little ball can not be seen, it has to be felt for. If a stud is cut on the wrong side of that ball, it can and does result in *proud cut*. I was the one that handled the knife in our little operations at home. Some studs we cut really short, meaning on the far side of that ball, some we cut just barely above that ball. It really depended on what we wanted for behavior.When you pull the balls out of the sack, the cord pulls as well, you go up the cord to that ball, and clamp just past it, then cut the cord. Some horses we went about another 1-2 inches past that ball, especially in older studs.
