We have had 2 horses dumped on our property. One was years ago. A draft gelding was left on top pf the mountain in the fall. Luckily, the sheriff found his owner. The guy logged with horses. This one had gotten loose and he thought he'd leave him up there for the winter to teach him a lesson. Several feet of snow for 6 months would have made sure he never ran anywhere again, I think.

Right now we have an older Arab gelding. Our county also doesn't have a rescue or other facility to take these animals. We were told to advertise him as a found horse. After 30 days, we could do whatever we wanted with him. We finally put shoes on him and are riding him. He's fat and healthy and hit the horsey jackpot.

The owner of the place the kids' horses are boarded has asked to keep the gates locked so that no one dumps a horse there.
