This is a horrible thing to have happen. Recently, my father has been pushing for me to take in 5 or 6 boarders (we have a nice sized arena and room for a few more horses here). But, I told him with the way the market is and the rising cost of feed, NO WAY am I gonna take in any boarders. My fear is that people will pay the first month's rent and then abandon their horse (hey its an easy out for them!) and WE will be stuck with the cost of feeding and whatever other care it needs until the legal time limit to place the horse on a feed lien has passed. (I believe in AZ, that time is like 90 days or something) No way am I gonna get myself into that mess.

We live in a semi-rural community and every property out here is legally allowed to have horses. So, its not like any local people would be interested in boarding with us. (Although, I do have ONE boarder... a 26 yr old gelding that has been owned by the same woman since before conception! lol She does actually live only about 1 mile away, but is too busy to keep him at her place, and doesn't have horse facilities set up. And, since she doesn't plan on having another horse after this one passes, she doesn't want to invest in the facilities to keep him there. It works out perfectly for both of us!)
