Wow... how sad.

Couldn't the dogs have gone inside, either at their own house or your's? I would have called and let the neighbors know to ask what they wanted me to do about the dogs getting out. They might have had you buy harnesses for them to stake them out, or even wanted to pay to kennel them. If I had the feeling that they wouldn't want to go there, I probably would have gone and purchased harnesses and charged them for it. There's just no way I would have continued putting dogs back in a yard they were escaping from like that.

Unfortunately QHSliding, most runaway dogs don't DON'T come back and that's not just my opinion. Take a look at shelter statistics.

Yeah I guess that's true. I shouldn't have said "most." But our little house dogs took off one morning (in the middle of winter, right after a huge snowstorm, go figure). They were gone all day. We drove around looking for them and had our neighbors on alert. Since they are small dogs and not meant to be out in the cold, we were really worried. It was about to get dark and we'd just about given up, when we hear scratching at the door...they'd finally had enough. Their feet were covered with ice...dumb dogs. My old trainer's Husky got loose one (in a suburban area, no less) and he was gone for 3 days. He came back as well.
