You wouldn't be able to put up a covered arena, you can do whatever you want as long as it isn't a building. It's not even so much that land is expensive, it's getting it period that's a problem. We were lucky that a 3 acre lot came up while we were looking. When you come on here asking for somewhere that offers "full board"...it's kind of clear that you haven't really looked into the matter deeply. Just like all the other people I've had this conversation with over the past five years. I've dealt with very nice people at the horse club, including the one who strung me along. She was very sweet and understanding. Unless SHE is willing to take you on as an Associate member though, you're not going to get anywhere. She might be able to give you the name of one of her friends who would take you on. If you do have a nice person that you like, willing to take you on, you STILL have to pass the board interview. This can be easy, it can be hard. I have a friend who is an Associate Member right now, and she calls the board president "mother superior." She says the trick is to grovel without making it terribly obvious, and to just say yes to whatever chores/jobs anyone suggests you do. She's been threatened twice with being let go as a member, because they felt she wasn't "pulling her weight." She spends pretty well every day out there, painting, lawnmowing, shovelling crap, but she does also get to ride her horse. She likes/gets on well with "her" member. I have no issues with the WORK...it's playing the games I can't handle. Straight up is not an attitude that goes very far with Mother Superior.
