Appaloosas are another breed that gets maligned unfairly, at least in my opinion. They are (or should be) solid, steady, intelligent horses that with the proper training make excellent beginner mounts. They are loyal horses with good minds and the tendency to think their way out of problems instead of blindly reacting.

Sadly, there's a ton of crappy-appys out there as they have fallen victim to kolor breeding. As with all things, breed for a single trait (teh spotz!!!) and everything else goes down the crapper, including temperament. Thus, we have oodles of nasty, stubborn, fugly (but spotted!) Appys with a mean streak a mile long that won't make a suitable mount for anyone. Hence the "experienced rider" line. It pains me, as I love the breed.
