Hey,

I am beginning a search for a completely BEGINNER safe horse, well as close as it gets - I realize some say there is no such thing!

What we need, is a confidence builder.  One who is forgiving and ready to take on some beginner riders.   Both my riders are actually quiet riders, have nice seats.  I'm speaking of my husband and my 10 year old son.  This will be a horse for both of them.    Need a horse who can take off for a week or two, and be the same quiet horse next time.  One who will not pick up on bad habits from its rider, such as stopping at the gate, or bolting off and running back to the gate.  Also my riders sometimes get in situations where they can't get the horse to move forward, they will back up, turn, etc to do anything from moving forward.  I realize a lot of people can correct this - they can't!   We need a horse, like you see in a lesson program, where complete beginners get on, and go. lol

I prefer a Quarter Horse, or similar breed.  Will consider a gaited horse, however our luck has been bad with finding one that fits this bill.    Horse must be sound, and not in need of any special shoes or medications to keep them healthy, age is not a huge deal, prefer early teens. 15 Hands to no larger than 15.2 Hands.  Trail experience a must, this is mostly what we do.  4H or Show experience an added plus, not needed.   My son shows great desire in getting into showing at fun shows.  Will pay up to $2000, maybe $2500.

I am located in the Cincinnati area, willing to travel up to 100 miles or so, and/or possibly do fish train, with a horse who is known to be this and no test ride required.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the age range your going to need (say 10+) there may be a bit of maintenance.  Be prepared for that.
