It sounds like a tough place to live!

If you're a horse, it is very tough!  It's probably the worst place in Western Canada to try and keep a horse...but it CAN be done...if your main hobby and passion were any one of a LIST of other things, it's nowhere near as bleak-sounding.  If this were a hunting forum and the OP had posted saying "hey, moving to Fort Mac, anyone know if there is Hunting up there?"  Brother.  Probably get 10,000 posts, at least half of those from SERIOUS Hunting enthusiasts, sincerely willing to take you out any time and get your Hunting on.  Impressive little ski hill and alping racing club, HUGE nordic skiing and biathalon clubs, mega-serious triathalon and marathon running groups...really, it's just the horse thing.  The band I played with last year was a great time, and my husband and I sing in a choir that is a lot of fun.

The expense and the backdoor/friend stuff doesn't bug you as much if you're in a big group of people, or there are a few options to choose from.
