A horse at the same facility where we board started rearing, refusing to bridle, and general snottiness. A couple of days later, he swelled between his jaws. Turns out he had a huge mass of cheat stickers embedded under his tongue that the vet had to remove. A couple of weeks of antibiotics and a month layoff and he's fine.

I've never heard another case that bad, but I know we watch for mouth problems after the cheat gets dry. The horses will eat it like any other grass when it is green, but I think most other problems come when the cheat gets mixed in with other hay or grass.

It is definitely a reason to wear tall boots. Nothing worse than socks full of cheat stickers.
