Yes, you are right, homosexuals have been in the military since there were wars. But when you make it official that openly gay people can serve , what are the unintended consequences? Even in the rest of society, discreet gay people will tell you that people that have to be perpetually in your face with their political statements wears real thin after a while.See the Emmys the other night? Ever hear someone preface a statement with " as a practicing heterosexual" .Should I remind you of my sexual orientation at every opportunity?  Sounds absurd, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, BRad, sometimes it takes a time period of "in your face political statements" before something will change.  Should we need to preface what we say with a statement about our sexual orientation?  Of course not.  It *should be* a non-issue.  But the fact is that, *heterosexuals* made homosexuality an issue first...if people were always free to practice their sexual orientation without recrimination (assuming consenting adults), it wouldn't have to be displayed on posters and in rallies.

It's like when men in the workplace get all upset that women are "over reacting" to sexual innuendos.  They like to say "sheesh, what's the big deal?" as long as it's not a big deal to THEM and it's in their favor.  Sometimes it takes big measures to show people that they're behaving improperly.
So if a woman gets all upset over a sexual innuendo from a straight man ( real or perceived)  it's a legitimate concern.

If a straight man gets all upset over a sexual innuendo from a gay man ( real or perceived) it's total bullshit.

Got it.
