I have heard over and over how Appaloosas aren't great for kids, like any horse there are good and bad within the breed. My go to horses for really green riders are my Appy and QH's. I think the more forward moving breeds can scare the daylights out of beginners, Arabians are great horses but are usually super athletic and can "teleport" which would not be great for kids/unbalanced new riders. Again, there are good and bad within the breed.

Here's one of my gentle beginner horses, Plow.

He spends most of his days half asleep with his ears drooping.
