I guess it depends on the beginner, too. Not every beginner wants or would suit a 100% bombproof dead-head of any breed. Generally a willing and kind individual of any breed (hot or not) is a good place to start from, then you can go up or down in "hot-ness" until the rider figures out what kind of ride they like.

Case in point - my sister and her first pony, an Arabian x Welsh. He had the Welsh pony attitude and the Arabian hot temperament/sensitivity. But he was a perfect first horse for her, because that's the kind of ride she loves, and something quieter would have bored her and turned her off riding. And he was pretty tolerant of her shenanigans.
